Our Memorable Visit to Shriners Children's Hospital
Back in June, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Shriners Children's Hospital in Chicago as they celebrated a remarkable milestone: their 100th birthday! The atmosphere was full of joy and excitement, and it felt special to be part of such a significant occasion.
Fun-Filled Carnival Celebration
The celebration was themed around a carnival, and it was a whirlwind of activities. We captured some fantastic moments that day, including participating in various fun-filled games and experiences. From creating our own special Build-A-Bear stuffies with the Build-A-Bear Foundation to playing pickleball with the great folks from Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, there was never a dull moment. The smiles on the children's faces said it all; joy was definitely in the air!
Creating Lasting Memories
We also had the chance to paint with the creative team at Toast to Paint, which added an artistic flair to our day. Each activity allowed us to connect with the kids and families in a meaningful way, creating memories that will last a lifetime. One of the highlights was when we gathered to wish a special happy birthday to the Shriners team. Their dedication and commitment to the children they serve is truly inspiring.
Looking Forward to More Celebrations
This month, we were back again — this time for the Shriners FLOW team's end-of-summer picnic. FLOW is one of the many patient and family programs Shriners Children's Chicago offers, and it's a great one to know about if you're not already connected — you can learn more about FLOW and other patient programs here. For us, this isn't a one-time visit. It's an ongoing relationship built on showing up, again and again, for the community that shows up for us.
A Partnership That Goes Deeper
That relationship extends beyond meetups and milestones. We're so excited to share that Shriners Children's is the presenting sponsor of our podcast, Parenting Children With Limb Differences, as we head into Season 4! Their team has already shared so much expertise and heart with our community through past episodes — if you haven't listened yet, this is a great time to catch up:
Dr. Jeffrey Ackman, Orthopaedic Surgeon, and India Jacobsen, Prosthetics and Orthotics — Listen here
Dr. Kathy Zebracki, Chief Psychologist, and Amanda Hogle, Recreational Therapist — Listen here
If you weren't with us this summer, we'd love for you to join us at the next event. This is what community looks like - and there's always room for more of it.
Stay tuned for more updates and adventures from our amazing journey with the Shriners Children's Hospital!
